Sports massage

For active individuals, Sports Massage is a form of deep tissue massage to help improve recovery, reduce the chance of injury and prepare the body for activity

What is sports massage?

Sports Massage, or Sports Therapy, integrates a combination of deep tissue strokes and a variety of techniques helping to improve your overall body function, prevent injury, speed recovery from training to assist in preparation for exercise and competition.

Proper recovery from an injury requires three things: re-alignment, deep tissue massage and exercise rehabilitation. Our approach focuses on increasing your awareness of the problems so you can take an active role in minimisation potential injuries and understand how to prevent injury occurring.

This massage technique differs from other massage treatments in being more physical with therapists going deeper into the tissue. While the massage may feel relaxing to some patients, its main purpose is not as a relaxing treatment but to realign and rehabilitate. This may mean in areas of tension there may be some discomfort.

Who does sports massage help?

In your first session, your therapist will talk to you about your health, your level of activity and any relevant history to determine your sports massage treatment and what areas may need attention. You will be asked to remove some clothing for the massage itself, and the therapist will give you privacy in your treatment room to do this.

If this is your first sports massage, you may experience some discomfort and some patients experience light-headedness immediately after treatment. Your therapist will advise you to take it easy and will provide you with a glass of water.
