Lorna Ely - Psychotherapy
Why did you choose your profession?
After 15 years in the corporate world, I felt it was time to return to my first love - working with people therapeutically as a psychotherapist. I had gone through my own difficult experiences and found therapy and mindfulness to be hugely supportive. In 2014 I embarked on a Masters in Mindfulness-based Core Process Psychotherapy. There is no work I love more than sitting with people exploring our unknown emotional terrains. I absolutely love this work!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Every person, irrespective of their life story, has the most extraordinary inner life. It’s a privilege to hear people speak about their lives, their hopes, their concerns, their pain. When a client chooses to start therapy, they are choosing to value themselves. It's a great honour to walk with them on their journey of discovery and it's an aspect of the work that I find hugely rewarding.
What areas do you specialise?
I work a lot with trauma and loss, whether it is something recent of from the past. Through my training, I offer a mindful and compassionate approach. This means clients can feel safe and warmly received as they explore what can often be painful or difficult experiences or memories, at the pace that is right for them.
My training is suitable for a wide range of mental health issues, including trauma, depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationship challenges, anger issues, low-mood or feeling ‘lost’, questions of identity or purpose in life. Sometimes we don’t know exactly what our ‘issue’ is but we know we want to shift something. That little nudge we're feeling inside can be the beginning of a wonderfully rich journey we can take to knowing ourselves better, being able to choose different things in life and feeling more fully and satisfyingly ‘ourselves’.
What conditions do you most enjoy treating?
I really enjoy working with people who want to explore their emotional health and who are ready to take that step. There are no conditions that I prefer working with! I’m passionate about the work in supporting people to find a greater sense of ease and wellbeing in their life.
What days/times do you work at The Heeler Centre?
I work by appointment and see clients Wednesday mornings, afternoons, evenings
