Osteopathy – all you need to know
8.8 million working days were lost during 2015-16 due to back pain, as it is one of the most common causes for complaint here in the UK. Here at The Heeler Centre, we strive to promote back health and posture care, and that’s why have three qualified and experienced Osteopaths who are on hand to give advice and professional treatment.
Osteopathy is one of the best treatments for back pain and is also non-invasive and drug free. Four techniques which Osteopaths use are:
- Articulation – moving your joints through their natural range of motion, and
- Massage – to release and relax muscles;
- Stretching stiff joints- to improve mobility and function;
- High-velocity thrusts – short, sharp movements to the spine, which produce a clicking noise similar to cracking your knuckles
Our Osteopaths may recommend self-help and exercises to help you recover and prevent symptoms reoccurring or worsening.
Osteopaths can treat anyone. No matter the age or profession, you can be assessed by an Osteopath. This falls into two categories:
The first area concerns the skeleton, the muscles and the joints, and how these work together. Specific conditions include back pain, neck pain and shoulder pain. Other common problems include arthritis and issues with the pelvis, hips and legs. Problems with posture caused by driving, work or pregnancy and minor sports injuries are in this section.
The second area concerns the nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. These include headaches, migraines, painful periods, digestive disorders, depression and excessive crying in babies (colic).
